Appreciating My Sons’ Butt Humor as a Gentleness Practice

And here’s an excerpt of their Butt story!

My sons, aged 5, 8, and 10, are weirdly fascinated by butts.

They used to exasperate me with their crude brand of humor. I grew up as a good girl with my younger sister, and we’ve never discussed butts with such enthusiasm as my sons! The butt forces are strong with this powerful trio.

As part of my gentleness practice and to keep myself from going insane, I’ve learned to acclimate to their jokes and even encouraged them to express their creativity through this topic.

I encouraged them to write a story about butts. It’s crazy typing it out here, but yes, that’s what I did! And I’m thoroughly impressed by my eldest son, Julius’s creativity. Last year, he used my phone to record a five-minute spontaneous and convincing speech on how the Universe started with a big fart. I’ve never been that eloquent before.

Last month, Julius started writing an epic story involving butts and even drew one of the main characters — a Butt Wizard, as shown in the featured image above. Do you see his butt-shaped staff? It farts! His younger brother Jayden contributed to the story, too. Their creativity and humor make me giggle, and I love that they appreciate my appreciation, too.
