Feeling Safe and Free to be Me

A Human Design perspective.

Re-reading my own book: “Empower your Life with Gentleness — A Simple Guide to Feeling Safe and Free to be You”, has helped me realize that in my journey of finding fulfilling and satisfying work through various careers, I was trying to heal my defined Identity Center in my own Human Design.

The Identity Center, this beautiful diamond in the center of the Human Design Body Graph, represents our sense of Identity, Love, and Direction.

Regardless of whether you are Defined or Open in this center, we are all here to feel safe and free to be who we are.

This is what my book’s subtitle says: A Simple Guide to Feeling Safe and Free to be You.

Defined Identity Center

If you are Defined in your Identity Center, like me, you have a fixed Identity that does not change regardless of where you are and who you are with. It is painful to be ignored, disliked or even hated by others by being who you are. And it can be painfully obvious because you do not have the capability to try to blend in. You just need to have the courage to find a place and community and who embraces who you are.

For me, I knew that I didn’t belong in that huge Aircraft Engineering Company, even when I switched to another department where my colleagues were much nicer to me. Later on, when I switched careers and tried to be trained as a Physical Therapist, I knew that I couldn’t work in the hospital environment despite excelling academically. So I left to honor my fixed Identity.

Open Identity Center

If you are Open in your Identity Center, even though it is easy for you to blend in with the people around you, and feel home in many different places, you have a strong sense of internal knowing when a certain place or group of people doesn’t click for you.

Your sense of identity is fluid, and you have the right and freedom to choose who you want to be at any given time.

Sometimes it takes courage for you to not blend in anymore and choose a new place and community you want to belong to.

Identity Center is a Monopole Magnet

Our Identity Center is so very important. It is seen as a monopole magnet that continually attracts things/people/situations to us. If we keep staying at places where we do not feel safe and free to be us at all, then we will keep attracting similar people, places, and situations that cause us to continue feeling unsafe, trapped and unloved.

If you have been feeling this way, I hope that this post is a great reminder for you to be brave in taking action to acknowledge who you have always been, or who you choose to be at this time.
