I Am a Mid-40s Goose Discovering That I Can Lay Golden Eggs

Life changes when you shift to valuing creativity over productivity

As a Highly Sensitive Person and Empath who grew up valuing convenience and practicality, I believed that being creative is neither convenient nor practical. Yet, over the span of my adult years in the past two decades, I am slowly morphing into a person who’s reclaiming my creativity as a birthright and a muscle I need and want to strengthen. After having a nourishing online conversation with a fellow creative and spiritual dancer from California, my mind started expanding on the metaphor of the Goose that lays Golden Eggs:

I am a mid-40s goose discovering that I can lay Golden Eggs — my books, articles, and dance videos. They are Golden to me and some people. I thought I have to sell those eggs or help others lay the eggs they want.

But being over-productive and even worse, thinking I have to cage myself to do that, takes away my productivity.

I want to focus on the art of taking good care of myself so I continue to lay golden eggs. I want to meet other geese and admire their golden eggs, exchange tips on luxurious self-care, and have geese who feel sad about not laying golden eggs to confide in me so they can work towards feeling happy and productive…
